How to wash and care for cotton properly

Our clothing is made from 100% organic cotton—from the fabrics to the sewing thread, embroidery thread, interlinings, and labels. We even stay true to our cradle-to-cradle approach with our socks, using 97% organic cotton and 3% biodegradable elastane.

Wipe instead of wash
Does every stain cause a stir? Instead of using the washing machine, you can also remove smaller stains with a cloth and a little eco-friendly laundry soap—just apply it gently and don't rub. This saves water and energy. It also protects the fibers, increasing the longevity of your clothes.
Off outside
If a piece of clothing no longer smells fresh, simply hang it outside or in a well-ventilated room for a while to air out. This often works wonders and saves you a laborious wash cycle!
Fresh scent
To remove odors, mix one part white vinegar with four parts water, let the clothes soak for 30-60 minutes, and then wash them as usual.
Tips for gentle machine washing
Always choose the lowest temperature possible to protect the fibers and reduce energy consumption. 30°C is usually sufficient.

This is how things are guaranteed to run smoothly
Since we use only 100% organic cotton for our clothing, most MELA products can be ironed (preferably at a low to medium temperature). A good alternative to irons is a steamer or garment steamer.

Small damages are best repaired immediately
Check that everything is in order before every wash, and repair any minor damage immediately to prevent it from getting worse. This will extend the lifespan of your clothes.

The best care for every cotton product
All MELA products are made from Indian organic cotton. So why isn't one care guide sufficient for all items? Our sustainable cotton is processed using a wide variety of techniques. This creates a wide variety of surfaces and fabric types for our products, each with its own distinct properties. Therefore, while some basic tips for environmentally friendly washing, drying, and ironing apply to all cotton products, some fabrics require special care. Therefore, please always follow the instructions on the care label in addition to our care tips!
By the way: Our garments are made from 100% natural raw materials and are free of synthetic fibers like elastane. This makes gentle care all the more important to prevent loosening (e.g., of cuffs and collars).
