We met with Jan Eggers in the Purecotz office in Mumbai and talked about his work as a sustainability manager. How did he come to embark on the adventure of India? And what are the challenges? Since the end of last year, Purecotz has been the first Indian textile company to be certified according to the new Fairtrade textile standard and has therefore agreed to pay its approximately 1,000 employees a living wage over the next six years. At the end of this phase, the factory will have to cover additional wage costs of one million euros through the willingness of the brands that produce there. What are the difficulties here and how does Jan try to convince customers of the project?
